The XIth Commandment by Halliwell Sutcliffe is set in rural Yorkshire, England, the story explores themes of morality, social duty, and human weakness, revolving around a central “unwritten” commandment: “Thou shalt not be found out.”

The story follows John Raynor, a morally upright schoolmaster who gets caught in a scandal after being falsely accused of fathering a child. The tight-knit, judgmental village society turns against him, forcing him to navigate betrayal, pride, and redemption. The novel highlights the hypocrisy and harshness of small-town values, where appearances and gossip often outweigh truth and justice.
